1 Assembly Elections 2026 & DGP Appointment Rules
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar officially announced the schedule for Assembly elections across 5 states and Union Territories. Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry will go to the polls in a single phase on April 9. Voting in Tamil Nadu is scheduled for April 23, while West Bengal will vote in two phases on April 23 and 29. The counting of votes for all regions will take place simultaneously on May 4, 2026.
- DGP Rules Amended: The UPSC has tightened the rules regarding the appointment of State DGPs.
